The 5 stages of Panchakarma Treatment

Panchakarma is one of the most important and beneficiary treatment/body therapy in Ayurveda. In Panchakarma there are different stages which are followed in order to complete the treatment. It is mainly done for the purposes of purification, detoxification and rejuvenation. The Panchakarma treatment is carried out over the minimum period of 7 days and can be extended up to maximum period of 28 days on the request of the individual. Panchakarma literally means a five step detoxification process. The 5 step detoxification include these treatments-


Vamana – This mainly cleans toxins collected in your lungs due to pollution or smoking or dust.

Vamana can help the following conditions:

Virechana – This mainly detoxifies your liver or gallbladder. You will puke during this stage.

  • Joint disorders
  • Digestive disorders

Basti – The Ayurveda divides different individuals in 3 parts Vata, Pitta and Kapha. All three elements are present in everybody but at different levels and what makes us different. The Basti cleanses this elements to maintain a balance, as increase in a single element can lead to bad health.

Raktamokshana- This is a process of cleansing of the blood. This is done rarely but if you are going to do the whole treatment, you should try this too. The toxins in your blood which are present for whatever reason are cleansed out via Raktamokshana treatment.
